If 40 is the new 30, is Fall the new Spring?  Now stick with me.  Spring is seen as a time of renewal.  A time to clear out the old to make room for the new.  But I’m going to go out on a limb here (a limb full of beautiful autumn foliage) and say that Fall brings about those same urges for cleaning out the old.  The kids are back in school, most of us are back from vacation, we start getting back into our work-out routine (errrr, at least we’re setting our alarm to start that work-out routine).  It’s a time when our energy is high - peaking from the rest we had in August.  Take advantage of this renewed vitality to set a new goal or work on an old one.  Check out the article below to see the goal I’m giving to each of you.  And if you need a little extra motivation to clear out the clutter, we have an offer below to give you that kick-start.  Read on....

The First Step To Getting Organized:
How and Where to Store your Most Important Documents

If I give you 3 minutes, can you do the following?  Okay go:

  1. Find your passport.
  2. Locate your social security card.
  3. Show me your medical directive.
  4. Get me a copy of your will/trust.
  5. Retrieve all those important certificates - you know the ones - marriage, birth, divorce, etc.

How’d you do?  If you’re like 98% of us out there, you got stuck somewhere around 1 or 2 when the buzzer went off.  So here’s your homework:

  1. Buy a fire-retardent lock box.  You can pick one up at any office supply store - it will cost you anywhere from $20 - $100.
  2. Put all important documents into the box and keep it somewhere for easy retrieval.
  3. Here’s a list of some key items to consider putting in:
    1. Passport
    2. Social Security Card(s)
    3. Copies of your driver’s license and major credit cards (saves major time if your wallet gets lost or stolen)
    4. Copy of your will and trust and your medical directive (a close friend or family member should also have a copy)
    5. Marriage, divorce, and birth certificates
